Q:

Is there a local contact in my community that is promoting the Challenge?

A:

Over 40 community partners work to deliver the program at the grassroots level. Check the Local Events for your city information or contact the national coordinating team for more information.

 
Q:

I would like to get my community/workplace involved in the Commuter Challenge for the first time.  How do I get started?

A:

Simply visit the Tools Page in the What’s the Challenge section of this Web site.

 
Q:

Are there promotional items available to promote the Challenge in my workplace/community?

A:

The national coordinating team has designed posters that can be downloaded for local groups to print and can be found on the "tools" page. If local groups would like to ad local sponsors to the poster please contact the national coordinating team for assistance. We will coordinate logo changes to customize local posters.

 
Q:

What is a sustainable mode of transportation?

A:

Sustainable modes of transportation include: walking, cycling, carpooling, taking transit and tele-commuting.  These modes are significantly less harmful to the environment and personal health than driving alone.  For additional details, please visit the Transportation Page in the What’s the Challenge section of this Web site.

 
Q:

Are there other activities related to Commuter Challenge that I can get involved in?

A:

The Commuter Challenge is cross-promoted with Clean Air Day and Canadian Environment Week. Also check the new calendar button on the home page.

 
Q:

Do I have to participate every day of Commuter Challenge week?

A:

In order to be included as a participant in the national challenge, you must have used a sustainable mode of transportation at least once to get to or from work.  However, the more days you participate, the more chances you may have to win prizes and the more significant your contribution will be to the environment and your personal health.

 
Q:

Can students from elementary and secondary schools participate in Commuter Challenge?

A:

This is predominately a work place challenge so schools are not included.  Our focus  is on adults going to work during the week of the challenge.  There is no provisions for schools.

 
Q:

I am not familiar with the Web site.  Is someone available to walk me through the Web site?

A:

Yes.  Simply contact the national coordination team to set up a telephone training session. You can also view the user manuals that walk you through and explain the registration process and administration tools.  They can be found on the "tools" page.

 
Q:

Once I’ve registered, why do I have to return to the site?

A:

Registration for the Challenge begins in spring.  Participants must return to the Web site during the results submission period to record their sustainable trips from Commuter Challenge week.  Registrants must have results submitted in order for their participation to be included in the official results and eligible for prizes.

 
Q:

I participated last year.  Can I simply login to submit this year’s results?

A:

Yes. All individual participants must register each year.

 
Q:

When can I submit my results?

A:

Results submission begins the first day of the Challenge and closes on the Monday of the next week.  This year, results will be accepted until ....TBA

 
Q:

Am I able to submit results on behalf of my workplace or group?

A:

No. Unless you run through the registration process for each staff complete with their personal information and password.

 
Q:

How are winners determined?

A:

Communities and national/provincial workplaces winners are declared based their percentage of participation in each population category. Local winners are also determined by community coordinators base on different criteria including percentage of participation, most days participated, most kilometres traveled sustainably, etc. Individual winners are also drawn at random among all participants to receive various prizes from sponsors.
