What is Commuter Challenge?
Commuter Challenge is a national program that encourages Canadians to walk, cycle, take transit, carpool or tele-work instead of driving alone to work. The Challenge supports workplaces as they encourage their employees to leave their cars at home for their personal health, the health of their communities and the health of the environment. Individual Canadians can participate too.
The program is based on a friendly competition between workplaces and communities across Canada to see which has the highest percentage participation rates during the week.
By registering participation online, Canadians are able to see the results of their healthier commutes with respect to greenhouse gases reductions calculated by taking into account kilometers not traveled and leaving your car at home.
Rules and Regulations for Commuter Challenge:
- Registration begins prior to the event dates usually around April.
- Results can be submitted once the Challenge has begun (June 1, 2008).
- Registrations and results will be accepted until June 9, 2008.
- Participants must be registered and have at least one sustainable commute logged in order for their participation to be included in the final tally.
- Communities are provided with official promotional material for the event courtesy of the national coordinating team
- Those who wish to produce their own material are requested to consult with the national team in order to respect our generous national partners.
